Kazimierz Morawski (1852 - 1925) is one of the most outstanding Polish humanists of the 19th and 20th century, known for being a professor at the Jagiellonian University in 1906 and the chairman of "The Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences" in 1918. He was a great expert in terms of ancient Greek and Roman literature, but the things he was mostly interested in, were the history of Polish culture, as well as translating ancient literature into his native language.
The author of books that elaborate on Roman literature or present the history of the Jagiellonian University, in 1921 he was awarded the highest Polish state decoration, the Order Of The White Eagle, for his contribution to the development of Polish education and culture.
Kazimierz Morawski died in Cracow, 1925, truly embracing the Greek “Kalokagathos” (an exemplar of nobility and culture of the soul and mind).
It is often thought that teaching and learning the Latin language is pretty unusual these days, but not here at High School no 2 in Przemyśl. Our school, since the beginning of its time, has been trying its best to uphold the engaging tradition of getting to know the language of the ancient Greek and Romans. That is why our students have the opportunity of learning it as soon as their first year here.
One obligatory element of our school traditions, is keeping up with the family of professor Kazimierz Morawski, who are often keen on our achievements and education. Additionally, they also fund a cash prize named after Kazimierz Morawski for a High School no 2 student who achieves the best results in learning Latin. This award has undoubtedly raised the prestige of the Latin language, which, although rarely used, lives and thrives in or high school. Here, students more willingly attend Latin lessons, showing their affection to the culture and the language, certainly believing that there is something special in learning the tradition that has shaped the today of modern culture.
